Newcastle under Lyme School Masterplanning

Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire ST5

A detailed masterplan setting out short, medium and long term development goals for the Newcastle-under-Lyme School.

The process included a curriculum analysis and space audit exerciseto assess the most efficient use of their existing accommodation. In conjunction with the curriculum analysis, the design team undertook a strategic masterplan to assess potential re-development options. The process initiated with a detailed consultation process with key management personnel, school governors, heads of departments as well as the pupils to ensure all key stakeholders had input into the proposals.

Formerly housing separate schools for girls and boy’s, the now co-educational school is split across a number of sites. As well as presenting logistical challenges, the number of sites has necessitated the duplication of facilities. Our brief was to assess a wide range of redevelopment options, including the option of relocating the school onto a single site. Although the existing buildings are not currently listed, local buildings are, including a protected view to the adjacent church.
