The King's School Theatre

Wrexham Road, Chester CH4

A complete refurbishment of the school’s existing hall to provide a new multi-function space.

The newly refurbished hall includes a retractable seating system and flexible staging to allow the hall to be used for theatre, concert, performance, lecture and exam ‘modes’.

CGL were appointed in 2010 to undertake the complete refurbishment of the school’s existing 860 sqm hall to provide a new multi-function space. As well as a full internal refurbishment and remodelling of the hall, the project includes a completely new A/V installation to enable complex technical performances. Additional facilities such as staff offices, meeting rooms and changing facilities have also been incorporated to allow for extracurricular initiatives to take place on campus.

The hall, named The Vanbrugh Theatre, was opened in 2011, designed to allow The King’s School to let the facility to external parties with minimal impact on daily school operations, thereby offering a potential revenue stream for further improved education facilities in the future.
