CGL were appointed for the refurbishment, partial change of use and extension of an existing office building in Clerkenwell.

Originally constructed as a warehouse in 1887, this space has been home to a number of manufacturers over the years.

The current office use was retained across the first to third floors, with the refurbishment works focused on bringing back the character of the original warehouse building. The external façade has been cleaned and re-painted, including restoration of the original timber sash and casement windows.

Internally existing walls and floors were stripped back to reveal original London stock brickwork and timber floorboards and opening up works revealed a number of forgotten feature such as the now expressed cruciform steel columns and warehouse goods winch that remains suspended over the entrance lobby.

A paired back palette of materials and fittings were chosen in the proposals to compliment the industrial heritage and celebrate the historic fabric of the building.
