Brooklyn Coffee
Spitalfield, London E1
Completion: 2014
Client: Brooklyn Coffee
Completed in March 2014, the Brooklyn Coffee Shop is located in the heart of Spitalfields and sits within part of the first Peabody building built in 1864. The listed building presented preservation challenges - limited permissible works to the shop front were overcome by restoration of the existing timber façade and selective colour and glazing finishes creating brand identity.
A very small footprint (approx. 42 sqm) resulted in a minimalist design approach, crafting an uncluttered and candid environment where owners and customers can focus on the product and efficient service, concentrating on a unique coffee offer. At the centre of the design a solid concrete counter (weighing approx. 650kg) is used, enforced with steelwork supports which allows for an undisturbed walkway around the service point.
Alterations to the back of house included damp proofing treatment to the basement allow the staff to store stock away from the shop floor.
