The King's Junior School
Wrexham Road, Chester CH4
This major extension to the existing Junior School provides an exciting new entrance along with specialist teaching facilities, a library and administrative functions set within a Greenfield site which was identified for refurbishment in 2013.
As part of the scheme, a bold two-story entrance provides a new focal point for the Junior School, rationalizing circulation across the school site. The entrance also accommodates a new library and administrative functions. Science, art and DT classrooms are also provided.
A highly sustainable design has been developed which includes a timber frame structure, renewable heat sources and a green roof, with the building’s section designed to maximize natural lighting and ventilation. This will assist the school as part of a broader programme to decrease energy use across the school site as well as point to a new direction for future school buildings.
